Seplat provides details on the explosion incident during a planned maintenance.

In a disclosure sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Seplat Petroleum Development Company PLC confirmed the incident involving seven fatalities following an explosion during planned work by a Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (the NPDC is partly owned by Seplat) contractor on 7th July 2020, at the Benin River Valve Station on OML 40 in Delta State. The company assured that there were no other casualties and the fire was quickly extinguished.


Seplat further reassured that “Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of all those who lost their lives. Our utmost priority will continue to be the safety and wellbeing of our employees and contractors, as well as their families”.


The company further assured that a detailed investigation into the cause of the explosion has commenced based on the announcement issued by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) yesterday
